Its name comes from the Latin aqua marina, seawater. Sailors wore it as a talisman of calm and safe return to port; today it evokes clarity, soothing, endless holidays.
Where it comes from
It is a beryl, a cousin of emerald, only clearer. Brazil yields the purest crystals, often of fine size, in a blue that ranges from lagoon to winter sky.
